Researchers enrolled 50 patients with a history of exacerbations of the disease, which was referred to rehabilitation, including randomly assigned to receive either a monthly dose of vitamin D or a placebo.

 Patients were given the vitamin group (d) 100 000 international units (IU) of vitamin D in the monthly dose, and the U.S. recommended daily allowance of vitamin D is 600 IU per day for up to aged 70 years and 800 IU per day for adults over the age of 70.
